Since 2000, Catawba County has ranked among the top 5 counties in NC for recycling. Now it’s even easier to recycle by using the new single stream program! You can recycle the items listed below all together in your new recycling cart.

Curbside Collection Information
For residents living in the unincorporated areas of Catawba County, curbside solidwaste and recycling collection is provided through a Solid Waste Franchise Agreement with Republic Services.

  Yes! Please place these items in your Recycling cart:
  • All Plastic Bottles and Containers (#1 – #7)
  • Wide-Mouth Plastic Containers (including lids)
  • Rigid Plastics
  • Mixed Paper, Newspapers with Inserts, Junk Mail,Computer Paper, Office Paper, Color Paper and Envelopes
  • Gift Wrapping Paper (without foil backing)
  • Magazines, Telephone Books, Paperback Books
  • Cardboard, Gift Boxes and Shoe Boxes
  • Pizza, Cereal and Food Boxes (no food debris)
  • Milk and Juice Cartons and Boxes (no liquid - all boxes should be flattened and placed into cart)
  • Aluminum Cans, Steel Cans (including lids)
  • Aluminum Foil (no food debris)
  • Glass Bottles and Jars (all colors)
  • Empty Aerosol Cans (no paint cans)

Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers (Drop-Off)
Catawba County offers five (5) Convenience Centers for solid waste disposal and recycling opportunities. The centers are operated as part of the franchise agreement with Republic Services.

Regular household garbage is accepted at the County Convenience Centers. For current Convenience Center rates, contact Republic Services at 828-256-2158. Click here for Republic's Fee Schedule

The following Items are accepted for recycling at the Convenience Centers, free of charge:

  • All Plastic Bottles and Containers (#1 – #7)
  • Wide-Mouth Plastic Containers (including lids)

  • Cooking Oil - Blackburn Only
  • Scrap Metal - Blackburn Only
  • Antifreeze - Blackburn and Bethany
  • Motor Oil & Filters - Blackburn, Bethany, Cooksville and Oxford

New! Plastic Bag Recycling
Plastic bags can be recycled at the County’s five Solidwaste Convenience Centers or at most major store outlets. The following stores offer plastic bag recycling services: Walmart, Target, Food Lion, Lowe’s Foods, Lowes Home Improvement and Bi-Lo. Be sure to check your local grocery store.
